What the State Policy Committee Does
The Joining Forces State Policy Committee connects local issues about housing affordability to policy decisions made by the State of Illinois. While local municipalities have broad control over the affordable housing process, the state government plays an important role in providing funding for affordable housing projects and homeless services, creating an environment that encourages affordable housing, and using its broad power as the state government to place restrictions on local governments attempting to prevent affordable housing projects in their communities.
Through monthly meetings, this committee will identify innovative state-level housing policies being implemented across the country, strategize, and implement advocacy campaigns, and help plan the annual Joining Forces Lobby Day at the State Capitol in Springfield.
