What Mobilization Team Members Do
FAQs
Q: Do I need to be signed up as a Joining Forces member before I can join the Mobilization Team?
A: Yes. Members go through an onboarding process that includes training (Affordable Housing 101 and Advocacy 101) and discussion that will help them to understand the issues they will be advocating on, the ways that advocacy can make a difference, and the philosophy of Joining Forces regarding its role as advocates in the community.
Q: Do I have to attend training, and how long does it take?
A: When you join the Mobilization Team, you will be asked to have a conversation with the Mobilization Team staff member, who can discuss your participation in training with you. We encourage everyone to attend the Mobilization Onboarding Workshop to help you to determine which advocacy actions best suit your interests, skills, comfort zone, and schedule. The workshop is approximately one hour long, and will be available in person and via Zoom.
Q: What will the Mobilization Team focus on in terms of advocacy?
A: The Committees of Joining Forces will plan strategies for the issues they work on--State Policy (including the state budget), Zoning, and YIMBY, as well as our ad hoc committees, currently focusing on anchor institutions, the South Blvd project, and Skokie's new housing ordinance. They will feed updates and calls to action about their projects to Joining Forces' staff who will, in turn, push them out to the Mobilization Team.
Q: How often does the Mobilization Team meet?
A: After attending training, Mobilization Team members will meet infrequently. There may be occasions when Team members, Committees, or Joining Forces staff decide a topic warrants a meeting, to provide more in depth information and education to Mobilization Team members. We will also make the contents of these meetings available to the Mobilization Team through our Member Dashboard.
Q: What types of calls to action will there be, and am I expected to respond to all of them?
A: Calls to action will include things like:
What Mobilization Team Members Do
- Participate in training on affordable housing and ways to advocate. Training times and levels are flexible.
- Receive regular updates on housing issues so they know what is happening before their advocacy is needed.
- Respond to calls for action they receive when the time is right.
