What is a Community Partner?
Community partners are local businesses, houses of worship, and non-profit organizations that share our vision of realizing a diverse, equitable, and inclusive Evanston through the creation and normalization of more housing that is affordable.
|
Since these organizations have stakes in communities that could be facing housing insecurity, Joining Forces seeks partnerships that would expand the reach of our advocacy, as well as highlight the diverse voices of community members.

Meet Our Community Partners
Mission: To strengthen the supportive housing sector so that people have access to affordable housing and can survive and thrive in their community with services individually tailored to their needs.

Quote: Center for Independent Futures (CIF) believes that affordable housing in Evanston can be improved by enforcing ADA compliance across the board, as well as radical zoning reform that would make Evanston’s zoning code more equitable for people with disabilities and lower incomes. These values are why CIF helped Joining Forces with their Equitable Zoning Project and have been a community partner since JFAH was founded. Mission: We create innovative product and service models that give individuals with disabilities and their families the skills and opportunities to realize full lives.

Quote: SHPA partners with Joining Forces and similar organizations because they “can’t afford to duplicate, but we can come together.” SHPA has seen a lot of wins for things they’ve lobbied for, and the knowledge to achieve those wins came from collaborations with other agencies. By learning from partner organizations and agencies, SHPA keeps up to date on what is needed for affordable housing or homeless services throughout the state, and then supports those partners through its lobbying. Quote: The League of Women Voters of Evanston (LWVE) is a member and community partner of Joining Forces for Affordable Housing (JFAH) because we share vision, mission and principles concerning housing; JFAH’s fair and affordable housing advocacy is consistent with local League positions; and because we believe strongly that collaborative action is more effective than individual advocacy. Quote: The Moran Center stands in solidarity with Connections and Joining Forces with a shared dedication for improving housing affordability in Evanston. They are partners with us in advocating for more public investment to increase Evanston’s affordable housing stock, reforming the city’s zoning code to increase the diversity and equity of housing options, and to educate tenants about their rights.
