Housing Policy
Zoning
We advocate against exclusionary zoning and fight for zoning that encourages equity and affordability.

Each year we advocate for bills that will support increased affordability, and sometimes we even help to write and negotiate bills.

Supporting New Developments
The Mobilization Team is a trained group of Joining Forces members who are committed to making a lasting impact in their communities by vocalizing their support for more affordable housing.

Countering Misinformation
As new opportunities to create affordability arise in our region, we support them through YIMBY (Yes, In My Back Yard) advocacy. We provide community education to correct misinformation about and promote the benefits of affordable housing.

Funding for Housing

Joining Forces advocates for municipalities and the State of Illinois to increase allocated funding to affordable housing measures every year.

Current Campaigns
RLTO in Evanston
The City of Evanston is considering a new ordinance to protect tenant rights. It includes a “Just Cause” section that will require landlords to have substantial and well-defined reasons for evicting a tenant or refusing to renew the lease.
