Joining Forces advocates on the following policy issues:
Zoning We advocate against exclusionary zoning and fight for zoning that encourages and supports affordability. Learn more about our work on zoning reform and consider joining our Zoning Committee! Local Policy As policy issues come under scrutiny, we advocate around their impact on a municipality’s ability to create more affordability. Current policy issues we are working on include:
State Policy Each year we advocate for bills that will support increased affordability, and sometimes we even help to write and negotiate bills. Learn more about our state-level work and consider joining our State Policy Committee. |
Housing Development
As new opportunities to create affordability arise in our region, we support them through YIMBY (Yes, In My Back Yard) advocacy. We continuously engage in community education to correct misinformation about affordable housing and answer questions from people who want to support affordable housing but are concerned about NIMBY (Not in My Back Yard) viewpoints they hear from opponents of affordable housing.

Funding for Affordable Housing
We advocate for municipalities and the State of Illinois to increase the funding they allocate to affordable housing measures every year. Learn more about the State of Illinois budget, and consider joining our State Policy Committee.
Current Campaigns
RLTO in Evanston
The City of Evanston is considering a new ordinance to protect tenant rights. It includes a “Just Cause” section that will require landlords to have substantial and well-defined reasons for evicting a tenant or refusing to renew the lease. |
Affordable Housing Ordinances in Skokie
The Village of Skokie is in the process of considering what ordinance it will put in place to increase the supply of affordable housing. |
