Joining Forces focuses on a range of issues related to local, regional and state affordable housing needs and barriers.
Each year we advocate for bills that will support increased affordability, and sometimes we even help to write and negotiate bills. Learn more about our state-level work and consider joining our State Policy Committee.
As policy issues come under scrutiny, we advocate around their impact on a municipality’s ability to create more affordability. Current policy issues we are working on include:
- Evanston’s 3-Unrelated Rule
- Skokie Affordable Housing Ordinance
We advocate against exclusionary zoning and fight for zoning that encourages and supports affordability. Learn more about our work on zoning reform and consider joining our Zoning Committee!
Supporting Housing Development & Combatting Misinformation
As new opportunities to create affordability arise in our region, we support them through YIMBY (Yes, In My Back Yard) advocacy.
Robust Affordable Housing Funding, Resource Allocation, & Decision Making
We advocate for municipalities and the State of Illinois to increase the funding they allocate to affordable housing measures every year, particularly for those with the greatest need.
RLTO in Evanston
The City of Evanston is considering a new ordinance to protect tenant rights. It includes a “Just Cause” section that will require landlords to have substantial and well-defined reasons for evicting a tenant or refusing to renew the lease.
